Why this calculator exists

Most of us don't keep a thermometer in every room, but we still ask the same questions. Is it really that warm in here? Has the AC been running long enough to make a difference? Should I open the windows or keep them shut?

Room Temperature Calculator gives you a quick, reasoned answer using things you already know: the weather outside and what's running inside.

What it does

You tell the calculator a few things about your room:

It combines these into an estimated indoor temperature, a likely range, a comfort level, and a short "Why?" list that shows what pushed the estimate up or down.

How the estimate works

The estimator doesn't subtract a fixed number from the outdoor temperature. It works out a starting temperature, works out the temperature your room is heading toward, and then moves the room along that path for the amount of time the AC, heater, or fan has been running. The full explanation, including the limits of the approach, is on the Methodology page.

What it isn't

This is an estimate, not a measurement. It is a simplified model and doesn't know about your insulation, how much sun hits your room, humidity, how many people are inside, or what your building is made of. Treat the result as a reasonable ballpark. If you need an exact reading, use an indoor thermometer.
